Net-zero energy/First in U.S. LEED Platinum Freestanding Classroom
Project Description
Very first net-zero energy and LEED Platinum freestanding public school classroom in the nation! 1500 square foot building showcases many energy-efficient measures: day lighting, natural ventilation, photovoltaic roof shingles, non-toxic materials, and control systems that minimize size of mechanical and electrical systems.
Highlights
The school's experimental natural lighting system called "the halo" is unique. Lights can remain off for all activities during the school day.
Construction is 70% more efficient than Oregon building code requirements. Classroom demonstrates Portland Public Schools' commitment to green building practices.
