Portland, OR  – In January, Northwest Airlines announced that starting June 10, 2004, it would offer a non-stop route between Portland and Tokyo. For the Port of Portland, that meant the addition and renovation of 15,000 square feet of space on a fast-tracked construction schedule. To meet this accelerated schedule, the Port selected Todd Hess Building Company, who was already on site completing the expansion of the north security checkpoint. The scope of the Northwest Airlines work consists of Federal Inspection Service (FIS) checkpoint expansion, concourse corridor connection bus waiting area, FIS baggage recheck expansion and relocation, signage modifications and upgrades to network rooms and gate improvements.   Key to the project’s success has been communication, including understanding expectations, responsibilities, schedules, trades’ needs and impacts, and end user needs.  “Our contractor has been able to meet milestone deadlines during the phasing of the construction,” said John Kennedy, engineering project manager. “These construction improvements are critical to meeting an essential air service need in our community.”  -- May, 2004

Portland, OR – As part of Portland Public School’s commitment to the safety of school kids, the Peninsula Elementary School, located at 8125 N. Emerald, will be receiving a safety facility improvement. General Contractor, Todd Hess Building Company, has been selected to upgrade the school’s fire and life safety components. This school remodel project poses a unique scheduling challenge because the Peninsula Elementary School is open year round. Todd Hess Building Company will take advantage of two school breaks, 2 1/2 weeks in May and 4 weeks in August, to deliver a split schedule construction “blitz”. “This is the kind of project that we like, with the split schedule, it will be challenging but we have found a way to make the schedule work. We have a good group of subcontractors who are all committed to making this project go well. We have an excellent safety record and have completed many jobs around the occupants still occupying the space.” April, 2002
